Not forgotten - Still Waiting

So that you don't think that we've forgotten the blog, here is a quick update.
Everything is so slow. Over a month has gone by, and we're not much further along. All of the time plans are being extended.
That doesn't mean that nothing is happening though.
The Denkmalpflege have been by again to take another look, and we've even had a couple of visits from an archaeologist that was interested in few aspects of the building that were highlighted by the Denkmalpflege,  as well as trying to age the building.
There was a plan to take samples from the beams to age them, but due to building practices at the time there is no guarantee that the beams that were going to be aged are the original beams, they may have been reused from another building, so we decided against it.
There are two new points that we have. The first is a new estimate on the age of the building. It now appears that it's from around 1550. The second is that we will be looking for evidence of a wehrgang (the battlements from the top of the town wall and guards walkway) while renovating!
We hope to have something new very soon, once a few items have been confirmed.

Overview

Nearly everything going on at the moment is about the roof. There's some digging work going on in the cellar and the ground floor, but pictures of holes and channels dug in the floor aren't as interesting. I'll add a separate post for the Roof once a little bit more is done. This post is all circular panorama shots from most of the rooms so we have a record of the process. The Start

After a long time searching, looking at different houses, in various locations, putting in bids, being conned by estate agents that went back on promises and strange auction processes, we've found a house. It's not what we were originally looking for, but there are aspects that we love. The age (1763), the wooden beams running throughout the ceiling and the walls, the thickness of the walls which is due to it being part of the original town fortifications, all of this as well as the potential made us want to buy it.  We also see it as a means to be able to move onto something else, a way to stop paying rent and to start putting money into something that will be ours.

Planning permission is Through

Things are going smoother now. The final hurdles to get us back on track are out of the way, we had to have new plans made (the others were off), and we found out that part of the planning permission application that we were trying to complete, was not necessary and wasn't even our responsibility! Now that the Planning Permissions are through, we can break through! Apart from the obvious way of getting from one building to the other through the front doors, or through the roof, there has been no other connection, until now. The first breakthrough was made at the weekend on the 1st floor, the one that will eventually be the kitchen. This means that we no longer have to run up and down two flights of stairs to be able to cross from one side to another.  The next two on the Ground Floor are planned for this weekend. More to come soon.
