Always Something Old to Find

Always Something Old to Find

Each time we go to the houses we seem to find something new. On the last trip, we were removing the rest of the kitchen and the walls. Behind one of the walls was another wall, and on that one was the Einsatzplan for the 1994 Waldenburg Weihnachtsmarkt.
I've blocked the names out IMG-20170801-WA0004a.jpg

After we carried the rest of the electric devices down the very narrow stairs, we made a start on removing the chipboard floor. There were signs that under the chipboard floor was another hard floor with glass flecks in it.
There was a hard floor, just not over the entire area. It took the form of where we think that an older room may have been. The left side of the room near the windows was old floorboards, and on the right, nothing but a hole down to the floor below!

We removed a lot of large heavy chipboard! So much so that Kathrin didn't want to get out of the way when I was taking the pictures.
After taking some planks of wood away that we found under where the fridge was, we found yet another floor. This time there were tiles similar to the ones that we found on the ground floor. We also found out that the wall that we had presumed was an older supporting wall, apparently isn't, if we go by the age of the bricks that are now visible.

These tiles appear to go back around a meter from this wall, but we won't know until we take some of the glass fleck floor away. We're hoping that It will go back a lot further.
Things are starting to move again. We've got the bauprofiles up now. These need to be up for 30 days to show the neighbours what we're going to change on the outside of the building.

The building plans were handed in last week. The next step or rather the next three steps are for the Local Council and the County Council to give them the okay and to wait the 30 days.
One of the three is already complete; the Local Council gave them the okay on Tuesday.
And finally, a new skip arrived, which we'll start to fill on Saturday. It's another 20 cubic meter one. I doubt that we'll get this one completely full, but we thought it better to get the extra space.
There is always something to do, and we're managing to keep the place clean!

Overview

Nearly everything going on at the moment is about the roof. There's some digging work going on in the cellar and the ground floor, but pictures of holes and channels dug in the floor aren't as interesting. I'll add a separate post for the Roof once a little bit more is done. This post is all circular panorama shots from most of the rooms so we have a record of the process. The Start

After a long time searching, looking at different houses, in various locations, putting in bids, being conned by estate agents that went back on promises and strange auction processes, we've found a house. It's not what we were originally looking for, but there are aspects that we love. The age (1763), the wooden beams running throughout the ceiling and the walls, the thickness of the walls which is due to it being part of the original town fortifications, all of this as well as the potential made us want to buy it.  We also see it as a means to be able to move onto something else, a way to stop paying rent and to start putting money into something that will be ours.

Planning permission is Through

Things are going smoother now. The final hurdles to get us back on track are out of the way, we had to have new plans made (the others were off), and we found out that part of the planning permission application that we were trying to complete, was not necessary and wasn't even our responsibility! Now that the Planning Permissions are through, we can break through! Apart from the obvious way of getting from one building to the other through the front doors, or through the roof, there has been no other connection, until now. The first breakthrough was made at the weekend on the 1st floor, the one that will eventually be the kitchen. This means that we no longer have to run up and down two flights of stairs to be able to cross from one side to another.  The next two on the Ground Floor are planned for this weekend. More to come soon.
