Handover Complete pt. 2

The paperwork is complete, we're now the official owners of the second house too.
There has been a lot going on recently, some good, some bad, but we're still positive about our project and we're looking forward to the next steps.
We've been busy removing further elements from inside the houses.  Most of the floor from the room in the previous post has gone, there are still some bricks from around the edges that need to go, but we need a new skip for that.

While taking some of these bricks away, we found that there is also a hidden wall all the way around. The white wall seen in the pictures is a brick wall, but behind this is a space, and then another brick wall painted in blood red. This could be connected to the stories that we've been told of this room once being a butchers.
We've also been busy in the former kitchen on the 1st floor. The linoleum floor has been removed as has the chipboard floor beneath it. Beneath this was a series of levelling battens, with a type of gravel between them. This was on top of a cracked concrete floor with glass flecks. We thought that this was the last level until we removed a cupboard in the corner of the room and discovered a gap underneath where there was no concrete floor which showed that it had been laid on the top of stone tiles. These tiles look very similar to the ones found on the ground floor. Beneath these tiles is a layer of fine sand, and beneath that, we finally have the floorboards.

There will be further steps, changes, challenges and obstacles along this route, but we'll be on top of it and in control.

Overview

Nearly everything going on at the moment is about the roof. There's some digging work going on in the cellar and the ground floor, but pictures of holes and channels dug in the floor aren't as interesting. I'll add a separate post for the Roof once a little bit more is done. This post is all circular panorama shots from most of the rooms so we have a record of the process. The Start

After a long time searching, looking at different houses, in various locations, putting in bids, being conned by estate agents that went back on promises and strange auction processes, we've found a house. It's not what we were originally looking for, but there are aspects that we love. The age (1763), the wooden beams running throughout the ceiling and the walls, the thickness of the walls which is due to it being part of the original town fortifications, all of this as well as the potential made us want to buy it.  We also see it as a means to be able to move onto something else, a way to stop paying rent and to start putting money into something that will be ours.

Planning permission is Through

Things are going smoother now. The final hurdles to get us back on track are out of the way, we had to have new plans made (the others were off), and we found out that part of the planning permission application that we were trying to complete, was not necessary and wasn't even our responsibility! Now that the Planning Permissions are through, we can break through! Apart from the obvious way of getting from one building to the other through the front doors, or through the roof, there has been no other connection, until now. The first breakthrough was made at the weekend on the 1st floor, the one that will eventually be the kitchen. This means that we no longer have to run up and down two flights of stairs to be able to cross from one side to another.  The next two on the Ground Floor are planned for this weekend. More to come soon.
