Ups and Downs

Ups and Downs

On the positive side, we've learnt a lesson or two, and we are still very excited about our project; maybe even more so now. We are going to take things, step by step, which may take a little longer but it's a more realistic and suitable time frame.
We now have someone in place that has experience, understands that this is our project, is able to communicate with us, demonstrates competency, and delivers what he's told us that he is working on.
We had expected and planned to be further along by now, but due to points that we don't want to go into any further, this isn't the case. Fortunately, we're not in a hurry.
Other than this not a lot has actually happened since the last post. We've have had the existing parking space lines removed and replaced with markings that indicate the area as a private parking space, and we've had a survey done on the pipes going out of the building which we were told that we needed for planning permission.

Overview

Nearly everything going on at the moment is about the roof. There's some digging work going on in the cellar and the ground floor, but pictures of holes and channels dug in the floor aren't as interesting. I'll add a separate post for the Roof once a little bit more is done. This post is all circular panorama shots from most of the rooms so we have a record of the process. The Start

After a long time searching, looking at different houses, in various locations, putting in bids, being conned by estate agents that went back on promises and strange auction processes, we've found a house. It's not what we were originally looking for, but there are aspects that we love. The age (1763), the wooden beams running throughout the ceiling and the walls, the thickness of the walls which is due to it being part of the original town fortifications, all of this as well as the potential made us want to buy it.  We also see it as a means to be able to move onto something else, a way to stop paying rent and to start putting money into something that will be ours.

Planning permission is Through

Things are going smoother now. The final hurdles to get us back on track are out of the way, we had to have new plans made (the others were off), and we found out that part of the planning permission application that we were trying to complete, was not necessary and wasn't even our responsibility! Now that the Planning Permissions are through, we can break through! Apart from the obvious way of getting from one building to the other through the front doors, or through the roof, there has been no other connection, until now. The first breakthrough was made at the weekend on the 1st floor, the one that will eventually be the kitchen. This means that we no longer have to run up and down two flights of stairs to be able to cross from one side to another.  The next two on the Ground Floor are planned for this weekend. More to come soon.
