Nearly There

Nearly There

We're very close, nearly everything that we don't need and can be removed from the house is now gone. Everything has finally been sorted out with the bank. We're nearly at the point where we can start putting new things in.
The plans for the heating, water, electricity are close to being finalised.
We were at the house again today to take some more pictures, and as we have a cold spell forecast for next week, we had to move some more oil from one heating system to another.
Most of the work that has been done in the past week was done on the ground floor, so all of the new images, apart from the last are from there. The last is an image from the 2nd floor with the stairs to the roof removed.

Next week we have another thrilling visit to a bathroom showroom, a meeting with a kitchen guy, and a meeting with the Architect.
More to come next week!

Overview

Nearly everything going on at the moment is about the roof. There's some digging work going on in the cellar and the ground floor, but pictures of holes and channels dug in the floor aren't as interesting. I'll add a separate post for the Roof once a little bit more is done. This post is all circular panorama shots from most of the rooms so we have a record of the process. The Start

After a long time searching, looking at different houses, in various locations, putting in bids, being conned by estate agents that went back on promises and strange auction processes, we've found a house. It's not what we were originally looking for, but there are aspects that we love. The age (1763), the wooden beams running throughout the ceiling and the walls, the thickness of the walls which is due to it being part of the original town fortifications, all of this as well as the potential made us want to buy it.  We also see it as a means to be able to move onto something else, a way to stop paying rent and to start putting money into something that will be ours.

Planning permission is Through

Things are going smoother now. The final hurdles to get us back on track are out of the way, we had to have new plans made (the others were off), and we found out that part of the planning permission application that we were trying to complete, was not necessary and wasn't even our responsibility! Now that the Planning Permissions are through, we can break through! Apart from the obvious way of getting from one building to the other through the front doors, or through the roof, there has been no other connection, until now. The first breakthrough was made at the weekend on the 1st floor, the one that will eventually be the kitchen. This means that we no longer have to run up and down two flights of stairs to be able to cross from one side to another.  The next two on the Ground Floor are planned for this weekend. More to come soon.
