Back in Time

As there isn't a lot to report at the moment, I have something else interesting to fill up the blog for the time being.
I came across some more sketches of Waldenburg on this website. Well, I didn't really come across them by chance, I've been actively searching for earlier information about the buildings.
The first is another one by Georg Friedrich Meyer, also dated around 1680. The view is from a different direction, so our house is at the back of the town slightly to the left of the Gate Tower.

The next ones are from 1746, 66 years later than those by Georg Friedrich Meyer and this time from Emanuel Büchel.

The next one is taken from the other side of the village, with an emphasis on the castle. There is, unfortunately, a lot less of it today. I've added one of my photos of the castle taken a couple of weeks ago further down for comparison. It's taken from a different perspective on the other side of the valley, but it's clear to see how much has gone and it's only really the tower that is still standing.

Overview

Nearly everything going on at the moment is about the roof. There's some digging work going on in the cellar and the ground floor, but pictures of holes and channels dug in the floor aren't as interesting. I'll add a separate post for the Roof once a little bit more is done. This post is all circular panorama shots from most of the rooms so we have a record of the process. The Start

After a long time searching, looking at different houses, in various locations, putting in bids, being conned by estate agents that went back on promises and strange auction processes, we've found a house. It's not what we were originally looking for, but there are aspects that we love. The age (1763), the wooden beams running throughout the ceiling and the walls, the thickness of the walls which is due to it being part of the original town fortifications, all of this as well as the potential made us want to buy it.  We also see it as a means to be able to move onto something else, a way to stop paying rent and to start putting money into something that will be ours.

Planning permission is Through

Things are going smoother now. The final hurdles to get us back on track are out of the way, we had to have new plans made (the others were off), and we found out that part of the planning permission application that we were trying to complete, was not necessary and wasn't even our responsibility! Now that the Planning Permissions are through, we can break through! Apart from the obvious way of getting from one building to the other through the front doors, or through the roof, there has been no other connection, until now. The first breakthrough was made at the weekend on the 1st floor, the one that will eventually be the kitchen. This means that we no longer have to run up and down two flights of stairs to be able to cross from one side to another.  The next two on the Ground Floor are planned for this weekend. More to come soon.
